Phnom Penh : National Museum
The National Museum in Phnom Penh is the largest museum in Cambodia, home to a significant collection of cultural and historical treasures. The National Museum houses many statues and artifacts from Cambodia's prehistoric, Angkorean, and later periods. The National Museum of Cambodia was built between 1917 and 1920, adjacent to the northern part of the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh. The entire building has a pointed roof and carved floral doors, an architectural style inspired by ancient Khmer temples and a blend of traditional Khmer architecture and French colonial style. Surrounded by trees and flowers, surrounded by a lotus pond, it resembles a beautiful small royal palace. Today, the Museum of Cambodia is open to both national and international visitors every day (from 9 am to 5 pm). The display of these artifacts is to attract tourists to study and learn about Khmer culture from ancient times, especially for students studying this field. The National Museum is located in the same campus of the Royal University of Fine Arts, Southern (built in 1917).
