Phnom Penh : Independence Monument
The Independence Monument was built in 1958 during the reign of King Norodom Suramarit (1955-1960) as a symbol of Cambodia's independence from France in 1953. The Independence Monument is located at the intersection of Norodom Boulevard and Sihanoukville Boulevard in the heart of Phnom Penh. The Independence Monument is 20 meters high, has 5 floors, and is decorated with 100 dragon heads, built in the style of Angkor, and designed by the famous Cambodian architect Vann Molyvann. In late 2007, the Phnom Penh Municipal Government renovated the Independence Monument to make it even more beautiful, which is worth noting that the renovation cost about 500 million riel.
