Preah Sihanouk Province : Kbal Chhay Waterfall

Kbal Chhay Waterfall is located in Prey Nop District, about 16 kilometers north of Sihanoukville. To get there, take National Road 4 from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh. About 7 kilometers from Sihanoukville, at kilometer 217, turn left for about 9 kilometers on the red dirt road and you will reach Kbal Chhay Waterfall. Kbal Chhay Waterfall originates from several springs along the mountain range, but only three of them are visible. The waterfall is 14 meters high, where the three springs merge. Kbal Chhay was discovered in 1960. Three years later, it was created as a reservoir to supply clean water to the city of Sihanoukville. However, the construction of the reservoir was interrupted by the civil war and the area became a hideout for the Khmer Rouge. In 1997, Kbal Chhay was identified for development, and a year later, Kok An was awarded the contract to build the road and develop the tourist area.

The waterfall is a multi-tiered waterfall and is about 14 meters high. It was discovered in the 1960s. It became very popular among the Cambodian people through the film The Giant Snake, produced in 2000, which is the most successful modern Cambodian film of its kind.
