ខេត្តសៀមរាប : Takeo Temple
Takeo Temple leads us to conclude at first that it is a small temple that is far away. But Takeo Temple is a huge temple that was built in the late 10th or early 11th century during the reign of King Jayavarman V. The temple is very large and tall, and has a large stone pillar that is considered an “unfinished temple”. Takeo Temple is only about 1 kilometer away from the Chey Gate of Angkor Thom. To reach Takeo Temple, tourists must travel from the Chey Gate and pass the Chao Say Tevado Temple and the Dhammananda Temple. Tourists must continue across a bridge and arrive at the parking lot on the right. Tourists can walk to Takeo Temple, which is only 300 meters away from the parking lot. Walking through the Preah Preah forest for a while, tourists will be surprised because the shape of a large 5-story mountain temple in the forest is not very famous. The temple is 22 meters high with 5 peaks. This temple is considered by archaeologists to be a great temple that was built with great care, but what is regrettable is that the temple was not completed. Archaeologists cannot say for sure why the construction was not completed. Previous temples had a square shape and only one entrance on the east side, but Takeo Temple has a square shape and has entrances on all four sides. Such square-shaped temples became more common after Takeo Temple. According to the information board, the temple tower first appeared at Takeo Temple. After a while, the tower disappeared from the temples of the later kings. But later the tower reappeared at Angkor Wat and Bayon Temple.
