Kampong Thom Province : Jinit River

The Chinit River is a tributary of Cambodia. Located in Kampong Thom Province, it is a major tributary of the Tonle Sap Lake ("Great Lake"), which joins the Tonle Sap at the lower end of the Greater Mekong River Basin. Unusually, the river is fed into the same river system, which is 264 kilometres (164 mi) long, leaving the Tonle Sap Lake and entering its tributary. The prehistoric archaeological site of Samrong Sen is located on the river's banks. Water resource projects, initiated in 1971 and 2003, have had varying degrees of success. The river is an important trade route.
